ur data architecture or your data strategy? Conventional business-school wi
sdom says that strategy always comes first, and certainly, that is the idea
l, but unless you have the luxury of starting from scratch with your data a
rchitecture, then you probably have to "work with what you have",
at least for a while. And yet the difficulty of implementing new data
initiatives often goes under-appreciated, particularly the common organiza
tional readiness and core competence challenges facing most organizati
ons. Beyond that there are common cultural and structural barriers that mus
t be eliminated in order to leverage data effectively. This talk will
discuss these barriers, how to overcome them, and how to get your strategy
and architecture into alignment. The presentation will also:
\n\n
Elaborate upon the three critical factors that lead to the failure of data
initiatives
\n \n
Demonstrate a two-phase data strategy implementation process
\n
 \n
Explore the “Seven Deadly Data Sins” of data strategy, discuss
the sources and rationales behind them, and recommend solutions a
nd alternative approaches\n\n
In this manner, data architecture investmen
ts can be more accurately focused on your organization's strategic prio
rities. Only when they're past the prerequisites, can organization
s develop a disciplined, repeatable means of improving the data literacy, p
rocesses, and supply - the three key elements required to improve data arch
itecture's support for strategy. Think of it as a repeatable proce
ss for identifying and removing data constraints.
\n
\nNote: Part
1 (morning) and Part 2 (afternoon) are mutually exclusive presentatio
ns. You may attend one or the other, or both.
\n
